Wicklow 3-19, Tipperary 0-14

Wicklow delivered a dominant performance to comfortably defeat Tipperary by 14 points in Round 6 of the Allianz Football League Division 4 on Sunday, March 15th at Echelon Park in Aughrim.

Tipperary, playing into a strong wind after winning the toss, aimed to retain possession early and limit Wicklow’s scoring before making use of the breeze later. While they managed to control the ball in the opening minutes, they failed to convert that into scores, with an early missed chance proving costly.

Wicklow gradually found their range, opening the scoring through Kevin Quinn with a two-point effort. That score sparked a period of dominance for the home side. Quinn added another long-range effort before Pádraig O’Toole struck for the game’s first goal, capitalising on a turnover from a kickout to finish clinically.

Wicklow’s attacking play was relentless, with further two-point scores stretching the lead. Tipperary struggled to contain the movement and accuracy of the Wicklow forwards, eventually getting on the scoreboard through James Morris midway through the half.

The pressure continued to build as Eoin Darcy netted Wicklow’s second goal, underlining their control of the contest. Although Tipperary responded with a couple of scores late in the half, they remained well behind.

A lively passage of play just before halftime saw chances at both ends, including a Tipperary effort that struck the post and a subsequent goal opportunity denied by a save. Wicklow finished the half strongly, leaving the score at 2-15 to 0-3.

Tipperary began the second period with Sean O’Connor landing an early two-point free. However, despite now playing with the wind, they struggled to significantly reduce the deficit.

Wicklow remained solid defensively while still posing a threat going forward, even coming close to a third goal early in the half.

Although Tipperary added a handful of scores, including frees and points from play, their attack lacked the consistency needed to mount a comeback. Wicklow managed the game effectively, slowing the tempo when required and picking off scores to maintain their advantage.

Late in the game, Kevin Quinn sealed the result with a goal, reacting quickest after a saved shot to finish into an empty net.

Wicklow added the final score of the match to complete an emphatic victory.

This result represents a significant blow to Tipperary’s hopes of promotion, leaving their chances all but extinguished. Wicklow, on the other hand, showed attacking sharpness and control throughout, making full use of their opportunities to secure a convincing win.
